I need some help! Batik's fabric

Well, I have a secret swapper who likes brights and batiks. I'm doing my best and bought this bundle on ebay, and added a few bright fossil ferns. I am totally lost. It's waaayyy out of my comfort zone here.

I need to make a bag, maybe with a sqare inside a square pattern? Any ideas? Any at all!

Hi Rachel, gee the pressure is on you isn't it. Those colours are way out of my comfort zone too but I think what you have pictured is actually OK. If your secret swapper loves batiks and brights then she will love this. Don't stress sew much! Kathyrn.

You've picked beautiful fabrics for your swapper. Yes there is a lot of secrets going on these days. For me too. So everything I blog about now is......secrets LOL

I can understand your problem - I wouldn't know where to start with those fabrics - but they are very beautiful! Sorry I can't help! Lucy x

I love the colours you've picked there. My bloggy friend Julie made a lovely patchwork bag this week.

I love batiks and those are gorgeous -- I'm sure your secret swapper will love whatever you put together with those! Any pattern you could make with quilting cotton you can make with batiks -- it's amazing how different patterns will look.

cute stuff. there are a lot of gals out there just doing different sized strips up and down and then made into the bag. good luck. it will turn out wonderful! i just know it.

Oh, I love batiks! I would use black as the other color for this, I am thinking cutting small squares of your brights and framing them in black :) Have fun! Whatever you make will be so great. :)

They may not be my first choice when thinking about colors but I love them. I truly believe a fossil fern will save anything and they go so well with batiks.
If you are doing a bag, what about a strippy one with the stripes going down the length of the bag and maybe gathered at the top with a bit of a frill. Have seen a picture of one some where in the last new days, but those fabrics look great together in either all 2.5" strips or mixed size pieces.
Have fun. They are like a glorious bunch of summer blooms.
