Sneak peeks of what I am up to ..

I've been stitching and stitching for Linda's Spring Swap. All I need to do is put the project together now ... getting close to the deadline with this one. This is just a little bit of a peek here.

I'm up to the final test sewing project for the Melly & me book Kaleidoscope. A bit of a peek of the very cute fabrics I am using for this one ..
And the biggest thank you to Janelle who sent me the best bundle of Amy Butler fabrics EVER and some pretty extras too. Janelle - you are just amazing, generous and kind xx Now I need to make something to show you all!
After I make Kane's Easter Bonnet for the Parade on Friday of course ....

Pretty Pinwheels

Lots happening at our place, working on a few secret projects and appreciating a weekend at home. I wish I could show some of the sewing I am working on! I hope these pinwheels are looking nice and spring-like for Linda's swap x

Well done Ayden!

It's a bit hard sometimes to grab a 15 year old boy and say, "quick grab your certificate and pose for a pic .... try and find somewhere without the sun in your eyes!"

But I did it! Here's Ayden with his Bronze Duke of Ed Award.

Ayden finished this award last year, before he went off to King Island and handed it all in to be sent off and assessed while he was away. Unfortunately the booklet disappeared. I'd made a few "sort this out" phone calls to the coordinator at school and a few months of chasing went on.

This poor teacher is now Ayden's year 10 geography teacher and during class he handed Ayden a book. He had found it hidden among all the new booklets. Hooray, so now he can start his silver level. Ayden volunteered for 6 months and collected bags and bags of litter from Ballarat's waterways, ran and swam lots of kilometres and learnt to cook as his skill to use while he was away for a term. He had to organise and participate on a couple of camps too, but that's part of the fun.

And the only craftiness I can show you is my Loose Change quilt that I have been dragging though the sewing machine to quilt it. Half done!

Tea Swap Goodness

I was lucky enough this morning to receive this fantastic package from Lynn, as part of Stephanie's tea swap.
A beautiful quilt that could be used both as a wallhanging or a table topper. Just love how Lynn has managed not just to use most of my favorite colours, but heaps of ric rac and spots too!
Doilies, a cookie cutter, the cutes magazine "Tea Time" along with a tea towel and pot holder. All the way from the USA. Thank you so much Lynn. I feel so lucky and appreciate all the work that has gone into your swap gifts. I can't wait for the rest of my family to come home and have a look too!
And look how generous Stephanie the swap mama was too. Every swapper received a little tea house like this, that flips over and has a little pocket to hold tea. It is unbelievable sweet. For a couple of days it went missing, and I found it up in Maya's dolls house. Maybe I need to make a mini one for Maya too.
Thank you so much Lynn and Stephanie!

Whopper!

This is one of the things that has kept me quiet this week. Its massive, and sorry not a good pic. The only spot I could find today to take it was, well, hanging from a couple of posts left over from our old chicken pen, and not the tidest bit of our yard... The quilt top is a large queen sized and you might be able to see what all those 1" squares were for in the last post. Three strips of 82 squares and I have sewn them all together to make up one of the strips for the quilt.

I've used heaps of fabric scraps and pieces that were difficult to use outside their range. Now I have to quilt it...

And this is it all folded up. Very randomly pieced.

My tea swap parcel has arrived a Lynn's home in the USA. Here is the table runner that I showed as a couple of sneak peeks, and the whole parcel is up on Lynn's blog too. Thanks too Stephanie for hosting this very fun swap!

Snazzy!

Wooo hooo. Look what arrived for me, all the way from Tasmania yesterday. My very own Bernina!

I've been wishing, googling, hinting and saving for a long long time.

It's okay. I know it's not the top of the line, but its a huge step up for me. My old machine was not coping with pins and going off on a slant at the end of rows. Lots of frustration and three kids are now very talented unpickers ... I want a workhorse of a sewing machine and I hope this is it. 264 1 inch squares today and I haven't even got past straight stitch.

At the Show ...

Yesterday I was off to the Show!

I had a budget and a list and I was pretty good ... I bought some little boys to match my little girls from Jodie, a zippered bag kit from Nikki and this cute ladybird panel from Kirsten. A few tiny glass animal beads for the kids too.

And fabric from Hot Possum and Amitie. All these fabrics except the whimisical little print in the front are for projects that are right there in my head - not for the stash! Well, except for the scraps of course.

The show was great. Living Creatively did a fantastic job of updating the show and so many bloggers to meet and catch up with! Jodies selvedge projects were on show and I am kicking myself that I didn't take a pic of them, along with the most beautiful quilt by Kellie. Holly had her cute donuts, I finally met Cathy and Louise, and Shannon too. And caught up with Kathryn and her mum.

If you are off to the Stitches and Craft Show, it was very hot and humid in the buildings .. lots and lots to see too

A whole day off work while the kids are at school and creche to shop for crafty bits and pieces. Hooray!

Our Callum is 8!

It's pretty special being 8.

I can't believe that our little baby Callum, who we waited years for, is 8 today!

Callum has had a great day today. New toys to play with, his favorite things to do and eat. A family trip to the Plaster Fun House to spend a few hours painting and decorating. A new even bigger bike to pick out next week.
Happy Birthday Callum xxx

Last week I stated cutting out a new project too. Lots of rectangles cut out and some chain piecing started.
I've sorted out a bag of fabric to restash a crafter and made a bit of room in my fabric box before the stitches and craft show...

In my hoop today ..

In my hoop is my Noah's Ark blocks having their final stitchery border added now they are all joined together. Then it is just a bit of quilting and binding and its done!

I've competed the quilt top on my sailboat quilt and its is nearly ready for hand quilting. Maybe a sneak peak of that later, as it will be off to Homespun as a project in the Feb issue next year.

Lots of scraps have been sorted and ironed today. A bundle to go off to the Restash a Crafter collection at the Stitches and Craft Show and some to cut up for a new project. Hooray!

Sunshine in your Pocket . Quilt top finished!

"Sunshine in your Pocket" has been such a long project! It must be over 18 months since I started the first block and began my collection of 1930's prints.

Not a great pic, really windy outside, so a couple of closer ones too. The stitcheries are from the book "Sunshine in your Pocket" by Bronwyn Hayes of Red Brolly.

Another one for my pile to be quilted..

While I have been working on the quilt, Matt and the kids have been busy outside clearing our old chook shed and avairy to make room for another water tank and a new chicken run. I can't believe how much work they have done!
