7 years old today.. our Kane!

What a great way to enjoy the last day of winter, with a birthday! Today Kane turned 7. He could hardly contain himself he was so excited.

Even better, today is his turn at "Show and Tell" so his camera and new little tripod went off to school with him. He has managed to keep his wobbly two front teeth for some birthday pics too.

Happy birthday Ruffy Ratbag. We love you heaps xx

Must try El Cheapo...

El Cheapo the overlocker arrived on Monday, after a bid on ebay, then a second chance offer.

He was very cheap but he hasn't made it out of the box yet. Must give him a go.

Must also get on quilting this quilt top, finally finished a week ago for Maya.

Big Red Riding Hood

Maya hasn't been very well this week. Coughing much of the night and up to take ventalin. She is pretty happy with her new jacket though! It is made from a pattern by Make it Perfect called Uptown Girl. We made it from red pin cord (baby cord) that I have been trying to track down for ages. Luckily a friend who works at Spotlight saw it and bought it home for me.

The jacket is reversible and closes with a button. Cute detail on the front and back with little gathers to give it more shape, and a hood on the back. Pellon added too for extra warmth.

Well, we didn't have a wolf for the pic, so Taz the Tassie Devil had to do, and we wouldn't want to call Maya "little" red riding hood!

Beautiful fabric and gifts...

Last year I joined Maree's Birthday Fat Quarter Swap. See all my fabric from my group of swappers Vanessa, Jo, Mandy, Jo Jo, Shelley and Kerry. The ladies sent me lots of extras and were just so generous. Thank you Maree and Birthday Swappers.

On Wednesday craft at Annie's, Kathryn gave Annie and I these beautiful Kokeshi Dolls. Thanks Kathryn x. Cute!

My birthday fat quarters haven't stayed in the stash for long... my wip has just a few of them.

More fantastic fabric, picked out by Emma, so I can make this cute Matryoshka Quilt by Rosalie Quinlan as a sample for her shop. I can't wait to start this one!

We even had sunshine yesterday. Not today though! Matt had to move our 10 foot trampline from where it had tipped last night, the winds were so strong.

Around the Block - Kates Blocks

I was lucky enough to be invited to join the Around the Block Quilting Bee. It's my first online quilting bee, and what an amazing group to be able to work with.

Kate from One Flew Over was first on the list and picked these fabrics that I just love together.

For my first blocks I picked a fairly traditional log cabin block, that showed the character prints that Kate sent, and added a few bits from my stash and Emma's stash. I hope Kate's little boy loves the finished quilt.

Working on something?

I've been a bit quiet this week, but things have been happening behind the scenes ... especially after a big parcel was posted.

I had a bit of a look for something to stitch in my pattern box. I really do aim to try all of those patterns that I buy, even if it takes several years to start. Out came "Basket Quilt and Pillows" by Bareroots. I'm using up a few of my left over bits of dmc thread that have lost their numbers, but I think they all go together. It was such a surprise yesterday when I read Bloom's blog and saw that Ros' mum was making the same pattern. I'm very inspired now!

Off came the borders I was unhappy with on this quilt. I've got a few ideas ticking away for some new ones.

And my exciting news ... I'm test sewing for a big secret project for Make it Perfect. Hooray! I just love Toni's designs and these are the fabrics I have picked out for the first one.

Trying to have a photoshoot

I struggle at photography. I get heaps of pics that are good for a laugh, but when I have to submit them to a magazine I have no luck at all! Today its rainy and cold and the best forecast for 3 days. I had a go.. and Maya laughed at me.

And I am laughing back at her.
